Jasper County Release Records Explained
A Jasper County release entry records the end of one custody episode. It is not a verdict. The Jasper County Sheriff's Office operates the county jail and publishes the immediate county source. Mississippi Department of Corrections, or MDOC, controls state sentence and discharge records. A court controls the legal disposition, while federal and immigration agencies maintain their own custody histories.
A person may leave Jasper County Jail on bond, after time served, by court order, or through transfer. The sheriff's feed has used the exact labels “Bonded Out,” “Time Served,” and “Transferred to DOC.” The first two normally describe departure to the community. A transfer ends county custody but starts or continues custody elsewhere. Parole and Earned Release Supervision, called ERS, end secure incarceration while leaving the person under MDOC authority. Discharge means the sentence or supervision term has ended.
- Release
- The end of physical custody in a named facility.
- Transfer
- Movement from one custodian to another, not freedom.
- Discharge
- The end of a sentence or supervision term.
- Time served
- A jail label showing that the custodial basis ended through served or credited time.
How Jasper County Custody Ends
The next lookup depends on the release reason. A bond card establishes that the jail episode ended, but the charge may remain active. A time-served card should be paired with the judgment when sentence details matter. Dismissal, acquittal, and dropped charges are court outcomes and cannot be inferred from a release label. Death, escape, a hospital move, or a data refresh can also remove a name from an ordinary roster without showing a community release.
| Jail or case event | What it means | Best next record |
|---|---|---|
| Bonded Out | County physical custody ended after bond conditions were met. | Justice or Circuit Court docket |
| Time Served | The jail says the custody term or credit was satisfied. | Judgment, commitment, and jail docket |
| Court order | A judge authorized release or movement. | Signed order and docket entry |
| Transferred to DOC | Jasper custody ended and state custody began. | MDOC offender detail record |
| Parole or ERS | Secure state custody ended under community supervision. | MDOC and Parole Board records |
| Discharged | The sentence or supervision term ended. | MDOC discharge certificate |
Arrest agency and custodial facility are separate facts. The Jasper roster includes bookings by Bay Springs Police Department, Heidelberg Police Department, Mississippi Highway Patrol, and MDOC. Those agency names do not create separate public jail rosters.
Fields in Jasper County Release Records
The sheriff's official 48-hour view ties a person to an arrest number and a dated release event. That arrest number is one of the best safeguards against mixing people with similar names. The entry also retains the arrest context, including the arresting agency and charges. Charge text reports the booking record, not guilt or the eventual outcome.
| Field | What it shows |
|---|---|
| Name and photograph | Identity clues that must be checked against other descriptors. |
| Arrest number | The local identifier for matching and requesting the booking episode. |
| Arrest date | When the sheriff recorded the arrest event. |
| Release date | The displayed date county custody ended. |
| Reason for release | The sheriff's exact disposition label for the custody event. |
| Gender, race, and age | Descriptors that help separate people with similar names. |
| Arrest agency and charges | The source agency and alleged booking charges. |
The feed does not provide a universal case number, bond amount, sentence expiration, or exact release time. The sheriff also warns that booking times are approximate and states that release entries update once per day. A printed web card should not be called a certified record.
Request Jasper County Release Records
A card remains visible for only 48 hours, but the underlying record lasts much longer. The Mississippi Department of Archives and History county schedule, item GSC 08-23, calls for booking records to remain for 10 years after release. Those records can include identity data, the commitment basis, time to serve, costs, and discharge information. The short web window and the retention term serve different functions.
- Collect the full name, aliases, date of birth if known, arrest number, and an approximate booking and release range.
- Call the Jasper County Sheriff's Office at 601-764-2588 to confirm the current records custodian and accepted delivery method.
- Request the booking or jail-docket entry, actual release date and time, exact reason, release authority, public transfer destination, and booking photograph.
- Ask for electronic copies, a fee estimate before costs are incurred, and all reasonably separable nonexempt portions.
- If part is withheld, ask for the specific exemption and preserve the response and dates.
The office is at 29 West 8th Avenue, Bay Springs, MS 39422, with posted office and jail-information hours of 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday. No dedicated sheriff records form, records email, or fee table was found. A focused request is more useful than asking the sheriff to create a new report or analyze the case.
Mississippi Law on Jasper Releases
Mississippi's Public Records Act, Miss. Code Ann. sections 25-61-1 through 25-61-19, covers records made or kept in public business, including photographs and electronic material. Section 25-61-5 allows inspection and copies under reasonable written procedures. When no procedure exists, access is due within one working day. An adopted procedure cannot set production or denial later than seven working days. If production cannot occur by then, the agency must give a specific written explanation, with production generally no later than 14 working days unless the parties agree otherwise.
Section 25-61-7 permits advance payment of actual search, review, copying, and mailing costs. Investigative material may be exempt under section 25-61-12, and protected details may be withheld. That does not make a release ledger identical to an investigative narrative. Ask for the booking, jail-docket, release, transfer, and photo parts so the custodian can separate releasable material.
An expungement changes public access to an eligible case record, but it is not implied by release. Miss. Code Ann. section 99-19-71 includes a petition route for specified arrests followed by dismissal, dropped charges, no disposition, or a not-guilty finding. Section 99-19-72 addresses a $150 filing fee for covered petitions. Mississippi amendments took effect July 1, 2026, so eligibility must be checked against current law and the actual court disposition. A release card that later conflicts with an expungement order should be addressed with the issuing court and sheriff rather than treated as current proof.
Which Jasper Court Holds Release Proof?
Jasper County has two judicial districts, so the right clerk is part of accurate release research. Circuit Court District 13 handles felony trials and misdemeanor appeals. Justice Court handles misdemeanors, felony preliminary proceedings, citations, warrants, and related process. The arresting agency does not decide which district holds the lasting case record.
The Circuit Clerk has a First Judicial District office in Paulding and a Second Judicial District office in Bay Springs. Ask for the court, district, case number, and docket sheet. Useful instruments include a bond order, dismissal, indictment, plea and sentence, jail-credit order, revocation order, release order, satisfaction, or expungement order. A judgment establishes legal action but may not state the exact hour the jail carried it out.
Does a release card mean the charge ended? No. It shows the end or transfer of physical custody. The court docket supplies the case outcome, while the jail docket supplies the custody event.
Find Jasper County Released Inmates
Begin with the custody type and the date range. This prevents a county bond event from being mistaken for a state or federal discharge. Use more than a name. Arrest numbers, MDOC numbers, dates of birth, case numbers, and physical descriptors reduce false matches.
- For a recent county episode, search the official Jasper 48-hour release view. Match the arrest number, arrest date, age, agency, and charges before recording the date and reason.
- If the card is gone, call the jail or request the booking and release record. The sheriff's current roster is only a custody snapshot.
- When the reason says Transferred to DOC, search MDOC by name or identification number and open the complete detail result.
- For a state release, compare MDOC location, tentative date, and supervision data, then request the actual discharge fact if unclear.
- Check the correct Jasper court docket for bond, dismissal, sentence, revocation, satisfaction, or later expungement.
- Use VINE for notifications, BOP for sentenced federal custody, and ICE when an immigration transfer is reported.
Jasper County Recent Release Search
Jasper County does not publish separate 24-hour or 72-hour feeds. Its only official recent-release source is labeled “48 HOUR RELEASE,” and it updates once daily. For same-day work, compare each displayed release date with the date being checked. Because no time appears, a precise rolling 24-hour cutoff cannot be drawn. The wider 72-Hour Releases process requires a sheriff call or request for hours 49 through 72.
The sheriff's release page is shown below as the direct local source.
The screenshot shows why the date, arrest number, and exact reason should be captured before a short-lived card rolls away.
Note: The sheriff's email roster-update control has no published trigger or cadence and is separate from a VINE release notification.
When Jasper Release Means Transfer
Jasper's local release vocabulary creates an important trap. “Transferred to DOC” closes the county custody episode, yet the person has not returned to the community. Preserve the arrest number, spelling, date, and release reason. Then move at once to the MDOC search. A delay can occur while state intake data is entered, so a missing immediate state result should prompt confirmation of the receiving agency from the jail.
By contrast, “Bonded Out” and “Time Served” usually describe a community exit. Neither states how the court case ended. A transfer can also be to another county, the U.S. Marshals Service, or ICE. Each custodian creates a separate trail. State clearly which custody ended and which one began.
MDOC Search for Jasper Releases
The MDOC inmate search accepts a name or MDOC identification number. Open the detail page rather than relying on a result name. MDOC can show identity details, entry date, current location and unit, sentence data, each offense, county of conviction, photograph, and the exact field “Tentative Release Date.” A Jasper County conviction may lead to a state record housed elsewhere.
| MDOC field | How to read it |
|---|---|
| Name or MDOC ID | Search entry and identity match. |
| Current location and unit | A prison location indicates continuing secure state custody. |
| County of conviction | Connects the state sentence to Jasper when applicable. |
| Sentence and offense fields | Provide the state commitment context. |
| Tentative Release Date | A forecast that may change, not proof of departure. |
The official example detail view demonstrates that field structure.
The example is evidence of the interface, not a Jasper County person's record. MDOC Records should confirm an actual release or final discharge when the public result is unclear.
MDOC Release Travel from Jasper Cases
State-prison release logistics must not be assigned to Jasper County Jail. For an MDOC release, a case manager verifies the travel plan, and MDOC says a discharge certificate is required before release. The department describes a process that can take 30 to 45 days. On request, MDOC may purchase a bus ticket to the destination or nearest city, but not for out-of-state travel.
These steps help explain why a tentative date is not the actual gate event. A state prisoner may have sentence credits, a proposed residence, supervision approval, travel planning, or a detainer still under review. A person who bonded out of Jasper County Jail follows a county process instead. No official Jasper jail release time, exit point, property procedure, or transport service was found.
Jasper Release Records Across Systems
Mississippi VINE is a specific-person search and notification channel. It is useful while a record remains active, but an alert does not replace the event record held by the sheriff or MDOC. The Mississippi Sex Offender Registry is separate and applies only when an offense and registration duty make it relevant. It is not a general list of released people.
| Situation | Primary place to look | What it establishes |
|---|---|---|
| Still in Jasper jail | Sheriff current roster | A current custody snapshot |
| Recent Jasper release | Sheriff 48-hour view | Release date and reason |
| State commitment | MDOC detail record | State location, sentence, and tentative date |
| State supervision | MDOC parolee search and community corrections | Physical release with legal supervision |
| Federal sentence | BOP inmate locator | BOP location or released status and date |
| Immigration custody | ICE detainee locator | Current or recent ICE custody |
ICE Records After Jasper Release
A detainer can create two correct records in sequence. Jasper County may record the end of its custody while ICE begins civil immigration custody. The ICE Online Detainee Locator searches by exact A-number and country of birth, or by exact biographical details. It includes people released from ICE custody within the last 60 days, which is far longer than Jasper's 48-hour county display.
Do not state that the person “went free” merely because the county episode closed. Search the receiving system and report which custody ended. BOP is different again: the BOP locator covers sentenced federal custody, while federal pretrial movement is often controlled by USMS and the federal court.
Jasper County Release Facilities
Jasper County has one confirmed county jail and one local community-corrections office. No state prison, federal prison, ICE facility, regional jail, or separate municipal detention facility was confirmed within the county. State, federal, and immigration pages below represent the systems that may receive or later release a person from a Jasper case.
- Jasper County Jail: county custody, community releases, and transfers.
- Jasper Probation & Parole Office: community supervision, not detention.
- Mississippi Department of Corrections: state commitments, prison release, and discharge.
- Federal Bureau of Prisons: sentenced federal custody and released status.
- ICE Detention System: civil immigration custody and recent ICE release.
Choose the system tied to the last known custodian. A single person can move through more than one of these records without any conflict between them.
